Frequently Asked Questions

When choosing a clinician and going ahead with any cosmetic treatment, you need to be informed about the risks and consider two essential aspects: the product’s safety and the expertise and skill of the person performing the treatment. It pays to do your research!
Every medical procedure has possible side effects. These will be discussed with you before treatment. Side effects from dermal fillers are related to having the product injected into the skin. As fillers are a thick gel-like substance, they can sometimes cause mild tissue trauma while injected into the skin, such as swelling, bruising, lumpiness and slight discomfort. These side effects always subside within a few days with simple post-treatment management. However, more serious side effects like infection, allergy, granuloma, and necrosis have been reported (less than 1:15000), and in extremely rare cases, visual impairments or blindness have been reported.
At The Cosmetic Studio Noosa, our staff are regularly trained in emergency responses in the management of all adverse events in accordance with the ‘Guidelines on Emergency Responses to Dermal Filler Adverse Events’. We abide by safe injecting practices and adhere to strict protocols for medical management to resolve these conditions in the rare event of them occurring. At your first consultation and every 12 months, you will have a FaceTime consultation with one of our supervising medical prescribers, who will assess your medical history, current medications, and any allergies or illnesses that may affect your suitability for treatment with dermal fillers.
Our Studio Director and Cosmetic Nurse Injector, Vicki Hull, has been Queensland’s Clinical Trainer for Galderma, the dermal filler supplier. She has trained hundreds of doctors and nurses in the use of dermal fillers both nationally and internationally. Vicki has also trained all Cosmetic Nurses at The Cosmetic Studio Noosa to an expert level and hosts regular in-clinic Adverse Events and clinical training for the whole team. We also keep up to date with the latest Emergency protocols by attending industry conferences and being members of AMET (Aesthetic medical support service).
In addition, we use only genuine brand, TGA-approved dermal fillers with an outstanding safety profile. Unfortunately, we cannot reveal the brand name of the products on our website due to legal requirements. So, with much comfort and confidence, we say you are in safe hands and expert hands too! Please go to OUR TEAM to find out more.

Depending on the area being treated and the dermal filler used, most treatments can be performed over a ½ to 1 hour appointment. Sometimes we will ask you to come in earlier for application of a topical aneasthetic cream.

Over time Dermal Filler naturally gets metabolised or broken down by the body. We recommend that you have follow up sessions before the dermal fillers are completely depleted. This helps to maintain the structure of the correction and gives longer lasting results. In the event that you decide not to have further treatments, there are no ill effects to your skin, such as over stretching the area, it will simply return to the state it was before treatment. In fact, we have seen in studies and in ourselves that even if you have the Dermal Filler treatment only once, new collagen stimulation can improve the skin’s tone and texture. This often leaves the treated area looking softer or more toned than before your treatment.

You will notice some side effects that will only last for about a few days. We will discuss these potential side effects in detail with you and advise how you can prevent them from occurring. The most likely side effects (if any) post a dermal filler treatment session includes the following:

Swelling:

When swelling is experienced with this treatment, it usually subsides within 24 to 48 hours. Our experts will advise you on how to prevent swelling once your treatment is complete.

Bruising:

Bruising is a potential risk when the skin is exposed to any procedure that involves penetration. Most of the time the bruises are very small and can be easily covered with mineral makeup. There are certain medicines that increase the bruising occurrence and you will be notified about these prior to your treatment.

Tenderness:

It is quite normal to feel a mild tenderness at the treatment site after having the dermal filler treatment. It is also easily manageable by simply taking a mild pain relief medication such as paracetamol. Other measures include applying ice to the treated area to reduce bruising or swelling, avoiding sauna, spas, strenuous exercise, and certain medicines. The post treatment care information will be explained in detail after your treatment is completed.

After your consultation, you’ll be offered a customised treatment plan. You might like to consider the options and then re-book an appointment for another visit, or you can begin the treatment on the same day (if time permits).
Once your dermal filler treatment is complete, we will give you instructions regarding your aftercare. If you have any questions or concerns we encourage you to call the clinic and speak with one of our clinicians. You can also book a review or follow up appointment two weeks after your treatment at no further cost.
This is the most commonly asked question because dermal fillers are given by injection, and some of us have a natural fear of needles or have had an unpleasant experience in the past. We understand this at The Cosmetic Studio Noosa, so it’s our priority to ensure that our clients feel at ease and are comfortable while undergoing their treatments. We offer many types of pain relief, from topical ice packs to a powerful numbing cream preparation, as well as proven distracting techniques! Best of all, the dermal fillers now come loaded with local anaesthetic which makes this a very comfortable treatment. We also ensure all clients get icy poles to take home as part of their after care. All of these options are available to help reduce discomfort.

You certainly will still look like you, only a fresher and more youthful version. In most cases we are not adding anything that you didn’t already have. We aim to restore, replenish, enhance and rejuvenate your skin. We work by the adage ‘Less is More’.

The Skinboosters gel-like filling ingredient is known to last from 6-9 months. But as we have seen clinically and in various studies, the thickening of collagen fibres leaves the skin looking luxuriously supple and hydrated for much longer. As we know, this is client dependant on lifestyle, genetics and age, which determines how fast your body naturally breaks down your collagen stores. Some clients who have had multiple or regular Skinbooster treatments eventually build up such good strong collagen stores that they only need a top up once every year or two. The more you look after your skin the more Skinboosters will look after you!
Its ability to draw moisture back into our skin is legendary. Those with dehydrated, crêpey, dry or sun-damaged skins are instantly given a hydration boost after just one treatment. The skin not only looks hydrated and supple it feels it too. Other cosmetic treatments or topical creams used to hydrate the skin are no match to Skinboosters powerful water drawing properties. Your skin will be glowing!
As we begin to age naturally wrinkles and lines begin to form on our face. This is because we begin to break down the collagen fibres, which provide the elasticity, vitality and bounce in our skin. In fact, we stop producing a percentage of collagen every year from around our forties, so our skin loses its elasticity, allowing opportunistic lines and crinkles to start forming on our face, neck, chest and hands.

Our collagen fibres are crucial in maintaining the skin’s structure. Like a strong network of scaffolding, collagen fibres keep our skin firm and supple, holding everything together. However, we can accelerate the destruction of our natural collagen by sun baking, smoking and the over use of alcohol and other drugs which all play a role in the daily destruction of our natural collagen stores. These life style factors cause premature ageing of the skin, creating deep lines, loss of elasticity and give the skin a sallow dehydrated appearance.

As a consequence these clients get less benefit and longevity from collagen rejuvenation treatments until they cease these habits. The good news is that Skinboosters have been clinically proven to thicken our existing collagen fibres, making them stronger and more elastic. This process is called ‘Collagen Stretching’ and takes up to 4-6 weeks to re-build and strengthen our collagen matrix. As a result the skins tone and texture are vastly improved, the skin thickens where it was once fragile and hyper-ageing, with a return to its former suppleness and bounce.

A Skinbooster is a very fine Dermal Filler, so it is used on very fine to medium lines and over areas of thin skin where subtle improvements and support are needed. Skinboosters are NOT thick volume lifting fillers, they are unable to fill deep folds or lift sunken cheeks; we have other fillers for those jobs. But Skinboosters can do just about anything else. They can be used in multiple areas to rejuvenate and hydrate, giving your skin a natural looking yet subtle youth and vitality.
