  • HOW DOES HAIR REMOVAL LASER WORK?

The Candela Gentle Max Pro is a medical, grade 4 laser system that utilises 755nm Alexandrite laser and the 1064nm NdYAG laser. Utilising both of these lasers we can treat ALL skin types for hair removal. The Candela 755nm laser is best for lighter skin types and the1064 nm NdYAG laser is suitable for darker skin types.  The Laser is attracted to the hair in your follicle and will deliver a beam of energy into the follicle to cause damage and kill the blood supply. The darker the follicle means the more effective the laser treatment. Unfortunately the laser is unable to pick up Grey, White and Red hair.  Please make sure all areas are treated are clean and moisturiser free 24 hours prior to the treatment.

  • HOW LONG DO THE TREATMENTS TAKE?

Treatment time varies depending on the areas being treated. Treatment times range from 5 minutes to 1 hour.

  • HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?

Approximately 6-12 treatments are required.  It is impossible to determine the exact number of treatments as they vary from person to person. The thicker and darker the hair on a pale skin the better the results from the treatment. Results will also depend on hormonal factors.

  • HOW DO I PREPARE FOR LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

Please shave the areas being treated 24 hours prior to treatment. Please make sure the skin is clean from deodorant and moisturiser and ALL FAKE TAN REMOVED otherwise treatment cannot commence. You must ensure you are NOT SUNBURNED OR TANNED before your laser hair removal appointment. Please DO NOT WAX or epilate before or after your laser treatment. The laser will target your hair follicle so this needs to be present for the treatment to be effective. If you are prone to cold sores and are having the lip area treated your practitioner may recommend prophylactic treatment with antiviral medication.

  • WHAT IS INVOLVED IN A LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT?

Our laser practitioners will perform an initial consultation to assess your suitability for laser treatment. You may be able to have treatment on the same day however in some cases you may need to wait a week or two to prepare your skin before treatment especially if you are currently tanned. During treatment you will be reclined or lying down and you will wear protective eye shields or goggles. Your practitioner will set laser parameters according to your specific skin type and will talk you through the process. The heat from the laser pulses may be slightly uncomfortable during and immediately following treatment however discomfort is significantly reduced using our specialised cooling device. Some people describe laser hair removal with the old term ‘rubber band flick’ but these days with the latest technology it’s much more comfortable and feels more like a warm prickle.

  • HOW OFTEN ARE TREATMENTS REQUIRED?

For facial hair treatment is required once every 2-4 weeks. Once facial hair is under control treatments will be moved to 4-8 weeks. Ongoing maintenance may be required due to hormonal factors. For body areas treatments are required once every 4-6 weeks. Then once reduction has started, treatments will be moved out to 6-8 weeks depending on reduction. Ongoing maintenance maybe required due to hormonal factors. If treatments are spaced too long apart this will slow down your results.

  • HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO SEE RESULTS?

This is all depends on the growth and density of the hair and your skin type. Most people will start to see a reduction within the first few treatments. After a course of treatments you should expect to see at least an 80% reduction in hair growth however efficiency will vary from patient to patient.

  • DO I NEED TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS AFTER TREATMENT?

After laser therapy, it is strongly recommended that you avoid the sun completely to reduce hyperpigmentation. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30+. If you are experiencing discomfort, ice may be applied. Avoid strenuous exercise or excessive hot showers for 48 hours after treatment.

  • WHAT WILL I LOOK LIKE AFTER TREATMENT?

Your treated area may be slightly red and might appear bumpy however, this will subside with the next 24 hours and on rare cases can last for a few days. The treated area may feel like sunburn for a few hours after treatment.

  • ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

There is a possibility of short-term side effects such as redness, mild burning, temporary bruising, increase in hair growth, swelling and temporary discoloration of the skin. In very rare cases there may be blistering, scarring and permanent discoloration. Changes in pigmentation (lightening and darkening) are more common in olive or darker complexions or those who are tanned. Risks can be minimised by following appropriate before and after care and using our specialised cooling device during treatment.

  • WHAT AFTER CARE IS REQUIRED AFTER MY TREATMENT?

A topical soothing skin care product such as Medik8 Hydr8 B5 Serum or Aloe Vera Gel may be applied following treatment if desired. Avoid sun exposure to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation and use a sunscreen of at least SPF30+ at all times throughout treatment. Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. Avoid any other hair removal treatments other than shaving. There are no restrictions on baths or showers however you must treat the skin gently as if you have sunburn for the first 24 hours. Anywhere from 5-14 days after the treatment shedding of the treated hair may occur and this may appear as new hair growth but this is NOT new hair growth. You can exfoliate the hair with a wet cloth or loofa sponge.

*Results and longevity of treatments vary on an individual basis and can be dependant on a person’s age, genetics, skin type, skin condition, environmental factors and lifestyle habits. Just like ageing is a natural process that occurs over time, preventing, achieving and maintaining results is also a gradual process that may involve more than one treatment.
