What is Dermapen?
Dermapen is a device used for a procedure known as ‘skin needling’ or ‘collagen induction therapy’. This treatment targets textural changes associated with skin ageing and scarring.
Skin needling was originally developed by plastic surgeons and dermatologists as a non-surgical method for tissue rejuvenation and regeneration. The Dermapen promotes natural collagen induction by harnessing the body’s ability to re-grow and repair the skin as a response to controlled micro-injuries. This small, hand-held device delivers up to 1,300 micro punctures per second into the skin, thus stimulating the production of collagen and elastin and normalising various skin functions.
Dermapen is Recommended to Treat:
- Sun damaged, aged or sagging skin
- Wrinkles & fine lines
- Uneven skin texture
- Smokers Lines
- Skin tightening and rejuvenation
- Large pores
- Stretch marks
- Scars (Acne, Surgical & some Burns)
- And much much more…
Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS THE COST OF A DERMAPEN TREATMENT?
The price depends on the specific area that is treated. Usually, the cost per area (such as the neck area, the entire face area, etc.) is $290. Hands are charged at $150. For only $90 you can even add a prescription high strength Vitamin A peel. We also offer discounted packages and specials which include a combination dermapen and peel.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The amount of treatments needed will vary between individuals depending on the condition of the skin and severity of lines and/or scarring. As a general recommendation:
Scarring: 6 treatments, 2-4 weeks apart
Rejuvenation: 3-6 treatments, 4 weeks apart
Stretch marks: 10 treatments, 3 weeks apart
*Treatment schedule to be used as a guide only.
HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT AFTER HAVING A DERMAL FILLER TREATMENT TO HAVE A DERMAPEN?
Generally we recommend waiting two weeks after having dermal filler before having a dermapen treatment. You can also have your dermapen treatment first and simply wait two weeks before having dermal filler, which will give your skin enough time to heal.
WILL I EXPERIENCE DOWNTIME AFTER MY DERMAPEN TREATMENT?
There will be facial redness that will last no longer than 12 to 48 hours post the treatment. Redness an be covered up by applying mineral makeup. On rare occasions, you may also experience flaky skin post treatment. If you combine your dermapen treatment with a peel then this is a more intensive treatment and there will be moderate to heavy peeling generally starting after 2 days and may take up to a week to recover.
IS THE DERMAPEN TREATMENT PAINFUL?
At The Cosmetic Studio Noosa we apply numbing cream to the area before treatment to reduce discomfort. Most people actually find the treatment quite comfortable and relaxing however areas such as the nose and forehead may be a little more sensitive. If you are having deep scarring and lines treated then a deeper treatment is required which can sometimes be a little more uncomfortable but is generally well tolerated.
HOW LONG UNTIL I SEE RESULTS FROM MY TREATMENT?
You may begin to see positive results 4-6 weeks after your first treatment, however you will see more significant results after 4 to 6 sessions. Over the next 6 to nearly 12 months, you will continue seeing signs of improvement; the recommended post treatment care should be followed for best results. If you combine your dermapen treatment with a peel then you may even notice results after 1-2 weeks.
DO I NEED TO PREPARE MY SKIN BEFORE HAVING A DERMAPEN?
No skin preparation is required before treatment with Dermapen. However we do recommend using active skincare in combination with your treatment for the best results. At The Cosmetic Studio Noosa we stock VI Derm and Alpha H skincare ranges which contain active ingredients such as vitamin A, vitamin C and alpha-hydroxy acids that help strengthen and repair the skin, and provide many anti ageing benefits. If you suffer with pigmentation or have very sun damaged skin we highly recommend starting active skincare to strengthen to skin and start the process of fading pigmentation before your Dermapen treatment.
